A new department built on established experience
Hacettepe University established the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering in 2026 within the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences. The department builds on the University’s experience in undergraduate artificial intelligence education since 2019 and on an active research community spanning artificial intelligence, computer vision, machine learning, multimodal learning, robotics, autonomous systems, data science, and related areas. As we shape the department’s next stage, we would be pleased to hear from researchers whose work complements our current strengths and broadens our teaching and research capacity.
Areas of particular interest
Natural language processing
Language technologies, large language models, multilingual and low-resource NLP, information retrieval, evaluation, and language-centered multimodal learning.
Medical and healthcare AI
Medical imaging, clinical multimodal learning, foundation models for medicine, trustworthy evaluation, and AI methods developed in close collaboration with domain experts.
Data engineering and intelligent systems
Data management, scalable data processing, databases, distributed and cloud systems, ML systems, MLOps, and reliable data-centric computing.
Complementary AI research
Generative and multimodal AI, reinforcement learning, responsible and trustworthy AI, human-centered AI, and other areas that add a distinct new dimension to the department.
Academic profile and responsibilities
We welcome expressions of interest from researchers who hold, or expect to hold by the time of a possible appointment, a PhD in computer science, computer engineering, artificial intelligence, or a closely related field. Candidates should demonstrate a strong research record or clear research potential, together with a serious commitment to high-quality teaching and student supervision.
Faculty members are expected to establish an independent and externally supported research program; teach at undergraduate and graduate levels; supervise undergraduate, MSc, and PhD research; contribute to curriculum development; and participate in the shared academic life of the department and faculty. We are particularly interested in colleagues who would help shape a newly established department through new research directions, laboratories, collaborations, and courses, while building links with Hacettepe University’s strengths in engineering, medicine, health sciences, and the natural and social sciences.
Expression of interest
Researchers who see a possible fit are invited to send the Department Chair a current curriculum vitae, a brief description of their research and teaching interests, and a link to a personal webpage or publication profile. A short note explaining how their expertise could complement the department would also be helpful. This preliminary contact is intended to explore mutual academic fit. Reference letters and other formal application documents are not requested at this stage. Expressions of interest are welcome even when there is no currently advertised position matching the researcher’s profile.
Formal appointment process
An expression of interest is not a formal job application or an offer of appointment. Any academic appointment must be associated with an officially announced position and is subject to the applicable legislation, Hacettepe University procedures, and the academic appointment criteria in effect at the time of application.
